The Badu Advisory Team
We are a strategic management consultancy with a focus on water, natural resources and environmental planning and management. Based in Queensland, Australia and drawing on a strong network of professional associates and specialists, Badu Advisory was founded in 2016 by Robert Speed and Tom Vanderbyl, who between them have over 60 years of experience in developing solutions for their clients at the regional, national and international levels.
Tom Vanderbyl
Principal
Tom has over 37 years experience in water and natural resources strategy, planning, policy, management and allocation.
Tom's experience includes a broad range of senior strategic, technical, operational leadership and consulting roles in the public and private sectors including as a senior executive within a government owned corporation.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Queensland and a Master of Business Administration from QUT. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and a member of Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Tom was awarded with a Natural Resource Management Australia Day Medallion by the Australia Day Council.
Robert Speed
Principal
Robert has over 25 years experience in environmental management, policy, and law with a focus on water resources. His work focuses on establishing legal, institutional and planning frameworks to support good resource management.
Robert has worked in Australia, Brazil, China, Ecuador, India, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tanzania and Vietnam. He has consulted to a wide range of clients including the Queensland and Australian Governments, the World Bank, the ADB, the OECD, WWF, and the World Resources Institute.
Robert holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland, a Master of Laws (Environment and Resources) from QUT and is admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland. Robert is also an adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Rivers Institute.
